Decoupage Wall Hanging Craft For Kids

Introduced a new art of decoration to my toddler today called Decoupage (french for "to cut out"). This art form involves pasting paper cut-outs on an object and then covering it with multiple layers of varnish until the "stuck on" appearance disappears and the result looks like painting or inlay work.

Sharing my tot's cute wall hanging made with this technique on a craft stick frame made by her.

MATERIALS

9 Popsicle sticks (14.8cm x 1.7cm)
Blue jute thread (~20cm)
Colorful paper cuttings (Try finding design with birds/animal. Kids love them)
Mod Podge
Foam brush
Scissor
Glue

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Take two popsicle sticks and put them ~13cm apart. Apply glue to both the sticks leaving 1.5cm on each side. Place the other seven sticks with their ends on the glued section of the two sticks and let them dry for a few minutes. This will form a nice wood frame.

2. Apply mod podge on the paper cuttings with a foam brush and paste them on the frame at your desired location. Apply a coat of mod podge on the entire surface of the frame and let it dry.

3. Apply extra layers of mod podge until the cuttings inlay well with the background (for us it looked good after three coats).

4. Lastly, glue the jute thread at the back of the frame making a nice hanging and let it dry for 4-5 hours before you can hang this beautiful artwork.

Happy Decoupaging!

Paper Plate Penguin Craft

Mr. Popper's Penguin

It's always amusing to watch Jim Carrey's movie. The Truman Show is my favourite among his movies. Recently watched Mr. Popper's Penguin again with my daughter. She loved the playful penguins in the movie, which gave me the next craft idea for her.

It's a penguin and we named it Popper's Penguin.

Paper Plate Cow Craft

It's a Moo Moo Cow!

Another simple and cute craft that you can enjoy with your kids - Paper Plate Cow Craft. This came out really good. My daughter is getting better at her glueing skills and following the instructions for the craft. Eyes are critical for any animal craft you make. You might have noticed in her earlier crafts that I give her stickers to make eyes since she is still learning to use a pen. We ran out of stickers so I made the eyes with a pen for her craft this time.

Easter Bunny Craft

Easter is here!

Easter is a festival celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucification and welcoming spring, a season that also symbolizes rebirth, rejuvenation, and regrowth.

The most cherished customs of Easter for kids are egg hunting and Easter bunny. Easter bunny is a gift-giving character similar to Santa Claus, carrying colored eggs and candy in his basket for children.

This Easter, my tot created this cute bunny, which makes for an easy-peasy craft idea.
